Fundraiser Against Content Theft!

Content theft is an issue for all creators, not only in Second Life. Curio used to be one of the most popular skin vendors in SL and was obviously copied. As the copyist took legal action against Curio, LL has closed the shop. Gala Phoenix, the owner and creator of Curio has now to afford 20.000 USD to solve the case at court and raises funds.  If you are interested in details I suggest the blog post by Arica Storaro in 'The Blogging Elf'.

Read the statement of Gala Phoenix here.

More than 100 creators have started a fund raising sale which opened yesterday and will be held until July 15. From the press realease: "Curio's Gala Phoenix is currently in the midst of legal issues which have resulted in her content being removed from the grid, pending the outcome of her legal battle. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) process in Second Life requires that when there is legal action taken against your content, Linden Lab will remove it from the grid until a ruling is made. Gala's fellow content creators have come together to host a fundraiser to help with the substantial legal costs she will incur in contesting these baseless claims...

...This fundraiser is not only to help Gala Phoenix, but to also take a stand for the community of content creators, for many of whom SL is their main source of income. This could happen to any one of us, and it's necessary that we stand up and fight back to ensure that it doesn't."

Isn't it great to have an excuse for spending Linden? Come and support Curio! There is much more to find than just skins, also clothes, furniture and much more. 50% or 100% of the sales are donated to Curio.
